French Court Rules In Favour Of Charlie Hebdo

Good news on the cartoon-jihad front.

Two Islamic groups tried to sue Charlie Hebdo, a French weekly newspaper, for publishing the dreaded motoons of blasphemy and supposedly "inciting hatred against Muslims". Fortunately, they lost the case.

BBC: [...] A French court has ruled in favour of weekly Charlie Hebdo, rejecting accusations by Islamic groups who said it incited hatred against Muslims.

The cartoons were covered by freedom of expression laws and were not an attack on Islam, but fundamentalists, it said.

The case was seen as an important test for freedom of expression in France.

Applause broke out in the courtroom at the announcement of the verdict, which ruled that the three cartoons published in February 2006 were not insulting to the Muslim community, the AFP news agency reports.

Editor Philippe Val had rejected the allegations, saying the cartoons were not an attack on Muslims, but on terrorists.

He said the ruling was a victory for secular French Muslims.

"This debate was necessary," he said.

The case had been brought by the Grand Mosque of Paris and the Union of French Islamic Organisations. [...]

After the death last Sunday of Rinie Mulder, a 54-year old indigenous Dutchman who was shot by a police officer, non-immigrant citizens went on a rampage in Utrecht. Apparently Mulder intervened when Muslim youths harassed a pregnant native Dutch woman. Locals claim the police has failed to protect them for years. They say the authorities are afraid of the immigrants and tolerate their criminal behavior.

This issue is not just about Utrecht or Holland. Similar resentment against Muslim immigrants, but at least as much against their own authorities, is quietly brewing among the natives all over Western Europe.

It is insulting that two thirds of the Dutch, one of the founding members of the European community, voted against the proposed EU Constitution, and yet EU leaders will apparently just ignore this and force their massively undemocratic Constitution down people's throats anyway. The German Presidency wants EU leaders to agree on a text for a new treaty by February 2008. The label 'Constitution' is to be dropped, in order to avoid further referendums.

European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso expressed unease with the prospect of a second Dutch constitution referendum. "Referendums make the process of approval of European treaties much more complicated and less predictable," he said "If a referendum had been held on the creation of the European Community or the introduction of the Euro, do you think these would have passed?"

Although the EU warns against "Islamophobia," those who live in the real world know that there has been an explosion of violent infidelophobia in Western Europe staged by Muslim immigrants. This wave of violence especially targets Jews, but the attacks against Christians that are going on in the Middle East are increasingly spreading to Europe as well. In more and more cities across the continent, non-Muslims are being harassed, robbed, mugged, raped, stabbed and even killed by Muslims. Native Europeans are slowly becoming second-rate citizens in their own countries. Read it all here.

BBC: Comeback for 'non-offensive' pigs

Organisers of a children's concert have given the go-ahead for the three little pigs to appear, after they were banned over fears they might offend Muslims.

Honley Junior School in West Yorkshire was to perform the Roald Dahl story of Little Red Riding Hood and the pigs - but was told to substitute puppies.

Now Kirklees Council has stepped in to allow the pigs a reprieve. No complaints had been made about the pigs appearing in the Kirklees Primary Music Festival event.

'Something barmy'

The committee organising the concert decided Muslim children may not want to sing about pigs.

However, council education spokesman Jim Dodds told BBC Five Live the decision had been overturned.

He said: "There is something barmy going on here and it has happened on my watch.

"I can tell you now that the three little pigs will be back into the school musical festival.

"The decision (to ban the pigs) was made by well-meaning people - it was the wrong decision, so let's stick with the traditions."

Australian Anti-Dhimmitude: "Terrorism is your problem; speak up and condemn terrorism"

Sunday Herald Sun via Dhimmi Watch: AUSTRALIA'S Muslim leaders have been "read the riot act" over the need to denounce any links between Islam and terrorism. The Howard Government's multicultural spokesman, Andrew Robb, yesterday told an audience of 100 imams who address Australia's mosques that these were tough times requiring great personal resolve. Mr Robb also called on them to shun a victim mentality that branded any criticism as discrimination.

"We live in a world of terrorism where evil acts are being regularly perpetrated in the name of your faith," Mr Robb said at the Sydney conference.

"And because it is your faith that is being invoked as justification for these evil acts, it is your problem.

"You can't wish it away, or ignore it, just because it has been caused by others.

"Instead, speak up and condemn terrorism, defend your role in the way of life that we all share here in Australia."

Backlash over Muslims' letter to Blair

Yay! British ministers show some anti-dhimmitude in response to the threatening open letter (See 2nd part of "Change Your Foreign Policy Or We'll Blow You Up") UK Muslim groups sent to Tony Blair.

The Independent: Muslim leaders will today face Government demands to take tougher steps to root our extremists in their midst. The demand follows a furious reaction by ministers to an open letter signed by Muslim organisations and politicians protesting that Tony Blair’s stance on Iraq and the Middle East provided “ammunition” to terrorists. [...]

Relations between Ministers and Muslim leaders have soured after their open letter called for a shift in foreign policy “to show the world we value the lives of civilians wherever they live and whatever their religion”. John Reid, Home Secretary, retorted that foreign policy could never be dictated by terrorists.

“I’m not going to question the motives of anyone who has signed this letter,” he told BBC News 24. “But I think it is a dreadful misjudgement if we believe the foreign policy of this country should be shaped in part, or in whole, under the threat of terrorist activity if we do not have a foreign policy with which the terrorists happen to agree.”

Other ministers have called the letter “facile”, “dangerous” and “foolish” and Downing Street said Mr Blair “stands ready” to confront his critics when he returns from summer holiday and defend his record over the Middle East.

The letter was signed by 38 groups, including the Muslim Council of Britain, and three of the four Muslim MPs.

In addition to missing once more the opportunity to inequivocably condemn terrorism with no ifs and buts, it looks like they picked the wrong timing for issuing threats.

WHEN will the Muslims of Britain stand up to be counted?

When will they declare, loud and clear, with no qualifications or quibbles about Britain's foreign policy, that Islamic terrorism is WRONG?

Most of all, when will the Muslim community in this country accept an absolute, undeniable, total truth: that Islamic terrorism is THEIR problem? THEY own it. And it is THEIR duty to face it and eradicate it.

To stop the denial, endless fudging and constant wailing that somehow it is everyone else's problem and, if Islamic terrorism exists at all, they are somehow the main victims.

Because until that happens the problem will never be resolved. And there will be more 7/7s and, sometime in the future, another airplane plot will succeed with horrific loss of innocent life.

Equally important, those British politicians who have seemed obsessed with pandering to, and even encouraging, this state of denial, must throw off their politically-correct blinkers and recognise the same truth—that Muslim terrorism in Britain is the direct responsibility of British Muslims.

They take lots of time, lots of staff, and are extremely expensive. This targeting of airport resources is called passenger profiling—the Israelis invented it and they've got probably the safest airports and airlines in the world.

The madmen of 7/7 and other suicide bombings didn't hide among the Hindu communities, worship in the Sikh temples, recruit at Catholic churches, did they? It may be true that events in Iraq have angered sections of the Muslim community.

[...] The absolutely unacceptable problem is that this opposition is used by too many to turn a blind eye to, or excuse, terrorists in their midst.
Blasting a passenger airliner out of the sky, killing hundreds of innocent men, women and children, is NEVER acceptable. Under any circumstances. There is NEVER an excuse.

Shortly after the news that Ayaan Hirsi Ali is emigrating to the US from the Netherlands, where critics want her deported because she lied on her 1992 asylum application, we learn that Paul Belien of the Brussels Journal is being accused of creating an "atmosphere of hatred"...

Paul Belien on BJ: "Following last Thursday’s Antwerp massacre the Belgian authorities have announced zero tolerance for racism. Belgian journalists, lawyers and politicians (including Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt), say that I am responsible for creating the atmosphere of hatred that led to the massacre. Some people even demand that I be prosecuted."

Will Europe lose another much needed anti-dhimmitude voice? :(

NEW YORK--Oriana Fallaci faces jail. In her mid-70s, stricken with a cancer that, for the moment, permits only the consumption of liquids--so yes, we drank champagne in the course of a three-hour interview--one of the most renowned journalists of the modern era has been indicted by a judge in her native Italy under provisions of the Italian Penal Code which proscribe the "vilipendio," or "vilification," of "any religion admitted by the state."
In her case, the religion deemed vilified is Islam, and the vilification was perpetrated, apparently, in a book she wrote last year--and which has sold many more than a million copies all over Europe-called "The Force of Reason." Its astringent thesis is that the Old Continent is on the verge of becoming a dominion of Islam, and that the people of the West have surrendered themselves fecklessly to the "sons of Allah." So in a nutshell, Oriana Fallaci faces up to two years' imprisonment for her beliefs-which is one reason why she has chosen to stay put in New York. Let us give thanks for the First Amendment.
[...] "When I was given the news," Ms. Fallaci says of her recent indictment, "I laughed. Bitterly, of course, but I laughed. No amusement, no surprise, because the trial is nothing else but a demonstration that everything I've written is true." An activist judge in Bergamo, in northern Italy, took it upon himself to admit a complaint against Ms. Fallaci that even the local prosecutors would not touch. The complainant, one Adel Smith-who, despite his name, is Muslim, and an incendiary public provocateur to boot-has a history of anti-Fallaci crankiness, and is widely believed to be behind the publication of a pamphlet, "Islam Punishes Oriana Fallaci," which exhorts Muslims to "eliminate" her. (Ironically, Mr. Smith, too, faces the peculiar charge of vilipendio against religion-Roman Catholicism in his case-after he described the Catholic Church as "a criminal organization" on television. Two years ago, he made news in Italy by filing suit for the removal of crucifixes from the walls of all public-school classrooms, and also, allegedly, for flinging a crucifix out of the window of a hospital room where his mother was being treated. "My mother will not die in a room where there is a crucifix," he said, according to hospital officials.)
Ms. Fallaci speaks in a passionate growl: "Europe is no longer Europe, it is 'Eurabia,' a colony of Islam, where the Islamic invasion does not proceed only in a physical sense, but also in a mental and cultural sense. Servility [= dhimmitude] to the invaders has poisoned democracy, with obvious consequences for the freedom of thought, and for the concept itself of liberty." Such words--"invaders," "invasion," "colony," "Eurabia"- are deeply, immensely, Politically Incorrect; and one is tempted to believe that it is her tone, her vocabulary, and not necessarily her substance or basic message, that has attracted the ire of the judge in Bergamo (and has made her so radioactive in the eyes of Europe's cultural elites).

She is in a black gloom about Europe and its future: "The increased presence of Muslims in Italy, and in Europe, is directly proportional to our loss of freedom." "

Peshawar - In his office in Peshawar's historic Mohabat Khan mosque, prayer leader Maulana Yousaf Qureshi smoothes his beard from the white roots to the henna-orange tips.

"There's no time limit. If someone kills the cartoonist in 50 years he will still get the million dollars," he says.
In a blazing sermon on February 17, Qureshi promised the money - and a new car - to whoever assassinates any of the 12 Danes whose drawings of the Prophet Mohammed ignited a firestorm of protest across the Muslim world.
On the same day, anti-cartoon protests in the conservative northwestern city turned into full-fledged anti-western riots that left foreign fast-food joints and businesses in flames.
The unrest has abated since then, but not the anger.
"We want them to spend the rest of their days like prisoners, under police protection," nods the imam, between two sips of sweetened green tea.
"We would like Denmark to sentence them to death, but since they don't do that there we would settle for life imprisonment." [WTF do they think they are??? People (?) like this make my blood boil!!]
Qureshi himself offered a $8 333 (about R50 000) reward while the rest is being collected by the Peshawar Association of Goldsmiths. The group also offered the car.
In Peshawar, the narrow lanes of the gold market adjoin the massive white mosque. Many jewellers bear callouses on their foreheads, caused by years of bowing in prayer.
Ahmed, who would not give his first name, is one of them. In his tiny shop he hammers out a gold sheet.
"I'm ready to donate my share. No one is refusing to pay, it's an honour.
"I'll give as much as possible, everything I have."
A little further off Haji Zarin Khan, the association's secretary general, sits in his office surrounded by gold and mirrors.
"All contributions will be voluntary. The richer ones will naturally pay more," he says.
"When the Prophet was alive, one day someone insulted him. He ordered they should be put to death. "
"So it's normal that the people behind these abominations should be killed. It's simple."
He lowers his voice.
"Look, what we basically want to do is send a message to the rest of the world. No doubt it will be difficult for someone to actually go to Denmark and kill these people."
"But we want to express our anger. And to ensure this never happens again."
Some visitors in the room nod in agreement.
"The solution is for them to say they are sorry. The cartoonists or the Danish government. Islam says you must pardon those who repent," Khan adds.
Rehmat Khan, who runs a modest shop near the entrance to the mosque, said he had "not been told about this reward.
The association has not made any official announcement.
"But if they ask me I will give them what I can. I am a small jeweller, I won't be able to give much... but I will give something."
Asked if he had seen the offending cartoons, he replied: "No, no, of course not. I'm too busy working every day. And anyway it would be a sin to look at them."
Sat cross-legged on a rug, behind his three telephones, his fax and his computer, Qureshi closes his eyes and smiles.
"These unfortunate drawings have had one positive effect: they have woken up the Muslim world, which is now more united."
A ringing telephone interrupts him.
"Inshallah (God willing), my son," he says.
"A mujahedin (holy warrior)," he explains.
