French Court Rules In Favour Of Charlie Hebdo

Good news on the cartoon-jihad front.

Two Islamic groups tried to sue Charlie Hebdo, a French weekly newspaper, for publishing the dreaded motoons of blasphemy and supposedly "inciting hatred against Muslims". Fortunately, they lost the case.

BBC: [...] A French court has ruled in favour of weekly Charlie Hebdo, rejecting accusations by Islamic groups who said it incited hatred against Muslims.

The cartoons were covered by freedom of expression laws and were not an attack on Islam, but fundamentalists, it said.

The case was seen as an important test for freedom of expression in France.

Applause broke out in the courtroom at the announcement of the verdict, which ruled that the three cartoons published in February 2006 were not insulting to the Muslim community, the AFP news agency reports.

Editor Philippe Val had rejected the allegations, saying the cartoons were not an attack on Muslims, but on terrorists.

He said the ruling was a victory for secular French Muslims.

"This debate was necessary," he said.

The case had been brought by the Grand Mosque of Paris and the Union of French Islamic Organisations. [...]

Cartoon Jihad Continues

Charlie Hebdo, a French weekly newspaper, is being sued by two Islamic groups for publishing the dreaded motoons of blasphemy and hence "inciting hatred against Muslims".

Reuters: Danish cartoon row goes to French court next week
PARIS, (Reuters) - The row over Danish cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad will be replayed in a French court next week when two influential Islamic groups sue a Paris satirical weekly for inciting hatred against Muslims by printing the caricatures. The two Muslim associations aim to show that reprinting the cartoons was a provocation equal to anti-Semitic acts or Holocaust denial that are already banned under French law, Dalil Boubakeur, rector of the Paris Grand Mosque, said on Friday. The cartoons, originally published in 2005 in the Danish daily Jyllens-Posten (sic), provoked violent protests in Asia, Africa and the Middle East that left 50 people dead. Several European publications reprinted them as an affirmation of free speech. The weekly Charlie Hebdo, which put out a special edition with the cartoons, argued religions are not beyond criticism and letting Muslims censor the media would curtail a basic right. "Free speech is not the issue here. The issue is that, in France, racism is not an opinion, it is a crime," said Francis Szpiner, lawyer for the Grand Mosque, which has sued along with the Union of French Islamic Organisations (UOIF). "Two of those caricatures make a link between Muslims and Muslim terrorists. That has a name and it's called racism."

Here they go, playing the race card again. (Hint: Islam = not a race)

"The ultimate goal of every Muslim is to establish Sharia law over the whole Earth"

This article is a real eye-opener over the so-called "Religion of Peace" and is well worth a read.

Daily Mail: Disaffected, raging, and hungry for the harsh finality of Sharia law

[...] On the streets of Sparkbrook yesterday, angry young Muslims denounced British culture and said we would be all better off living under Sharia law.

"What are your Western values?" said one young man in traditional Islamic dress. "Your youngsters get drunk and fight outside the bars in the city centre. Even the women do it."

"I don't want to live a Western lifestyle," added a woman whose face was covered by a veil. "I would like to live by Sharia law. That is my choice."

[...] Earlier this week, a survey revealed that nearly four in ten young British Muslims aged 18-24 would prefer to live under Sharia law than British law. The study, commissioned by the Right-wing think-tank Policy Exchange, identified significant support for wearing the veil in public, Islamic schools and even punishment by death for Muslims who convert to another religion.

Most worryingly, 13 per cent of young Muslims said they "admired" organisations such as Al Qaeda which are prepared to "fight the West".

I have spent the past week speaking to young British Muslims in London and Birmingham and it becomes clear while speaking to young people that a significant minority feel a growing sense of alienation from mainstream British society - which in turn leads to a rejection of British cultural values - because of what they say is the persecution and murder of Muslims in Iraq.

Sharia law, those young British Muslims argue, is a way of life which embraces a superior moral code to that of modern Britain.

Wearing the veil is not a sign of subservience but that a woman has "self-respect". There is a growing repugnance at British society, the binge drinking, the promiscuity, the perceived "decadence".

[...] A few stalls away, another man selling groceries summed up the feeling in one succinct sentence. "There is a sense of them and us now."

The lines are drawn. And while few presently have the appetite actually to do anything to turn Britain into an Islamic state living under Sharia law, momentum is growing.

A few miles away from Whitechapel in East Ham, an indication of this could be found in around half a dozen garish yellow and black flyers that were haphazardly plastered across bus shelters, traffic lights and road signs. Sharia law, they proclaimed to passers-by, was "the only option for the UK".

Alongside this dramatic declaration was an image of the Palace of Westminster. An unidentifiable flag - not the familiar British red, white and blue - had been hoisted aloft; sandwiched between Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament was a minaret.

Gous Miah, a 26-year-old shop worker from Bethnal Green, would like to think that this tatty but arresting poster is a vision of the future.

"The British way of life is unacceptable to Muslims," says Mr Miah, who works in a newsagent's shop.

"It is wrong to drink. Look at all the deaths caused by drink-driving. It is wrong for women to wear skirts. Women should be covered up at all times, and it is wrong for British politicians to try to change that."

He says Britain is "too soft" on criminals. The penalties for criminals under Sharia law might be harsh - some would say barbaric - but Mr Miah argues that they serve as a highly effective deterrent.

"British law is not acceptable to Muslims - it is too soft. There are people committing horrendous crimes and getting away with it. Things would be better if we lived under Sharia law.

"We don't want to be like the non-Muslims who smoke, drink and are promiscuous. That is why young Muslims are breaking away from British society - the cultures are too different. Blair and Bush are spreading the hatred."

Ali Khan, an IT worker with an investment bank, says Sharia law is "demonised" in the West. "All you read about is cutting off hands, stoning and beheading people. In fact, it is an entire way of leading your life in an Islamic state, as set out in the Koran, and allows Muslims and non-Muslims to live together peacefully.

"I would prefer to live under it. It is completely different to British law, which is man-made and laid down by a government which is all about greed, corruption and at the beck and call of big business with vested interests.

"I do not admire Al Qaeda, but they are trying to address the issues that all Muslims face, of subjugation of their lands, theft of wealth and oppression of their people."

Abdul Hussain, 21, works in a shop in East Ham. He says there is a moral dimension to Sharia that is appealing.

"Sharia law covers all our social and financial affairs as well as crime. We are supposed to give a fortieth of our wealth to the poor and are not allowed to charge interest on loans, for example."

He believes the values of Westerners are shallow. "I think an Islamic school would be a good option for my children. I went to a normal Western school and it messed up my head having to listen to non-Muslims talking about sex and rubbish all day long.

"The punishments under Sharia law are tough, but they do stop crime. If you know you are going to be stoned or beheaded for adultery, you don't commit adultery."

Ismail Ali, a 27-year-old delivery driver from Bethnal Green, objects to the "lack of modesty" that pervades British society.

"It is easy to understand why young Muslims are turning their backs on the British way of life," he says. "Your politicians tell us women should not wear the hijab, but you have naked women on the front of newspapers. Images like that lead to rape.

[...] Khalid Kelly, an Irish Muslim convert, was a member of the now disbanded hardline Islamic organisation Al-Mujaharoun and now describes himself as an independent Muslim preacher.

"The ultimate goal of every Muslim is to establish Sharia law over the whole Earth," he says. "It is a superior way of life and every Muslim living in the UK has an obligation to call for Sharia law to be implemented.

"We believe in jihad, which literally means to struggle. It is not allowed for a Muslim to obey a man-made system of laws that is prone to errors.

"Sharia law is a perfect system of divine law and order that the whole world should live under.

"Everything you have in the West is wrong. We should be in charge over you. If Sharia law prevailed, it would change everything.

"Alcohol would be outlawed and it would be illegal for any woman to leave the house unless she had her whole body and head covered. Everything would change for the better - it is sadly and badly needed."

Kelly holds in high esteem the men who carried out the 7/7 bombings in London. "The martyrs who carried out the bombings on July 7 were praiseworthy and correct.

"We have to spread Sharia law and put fear into the head of the enemy."

So Much For The "Tiny Minority™" Of Muslim Extremists

Michael Freund is spot on with The straightforward arithmetic of jihad (h/t LGF).

It’s time we open our eyes and confront reality. Ever since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the media has sought to reassure us that only a tiny minority of Muslims actually support the use of violence against Israel and the West.

It’s just a small fringe, a marginal few at best, they tell us, so don’t worry about it all too much. One percent or three percent - who cares? Just sit back, enjoy your morning eggs and coffee and have a nice day.

But a look at the numbers tells a very different story. The extent of support for global jihad is frightening in its proportions, and the numbers are anything but insignificant.

Consider, for example, the following statistics regarding support for suicide bombings and other types of terror attacks.

In a poll conducted five months ago, and broadcast on Britain’s Channel 4 TV, nearly 25% of British Muslims said the July 7, 2005, terror bombings in London, which killed 52 innocent commuters, were justified. Another 30% said they would prefer to live under strict Islamic Sharia law rather than England’s democratic system.

Now, one in four justifying terror may not be a majority, but it certainly isn’t a “small fringe” either.

In other countries, the figures are no less unsettling. A survey published in December found that 44% of Nigerian Muslims believe suicide bombing attacks are “often” or “sometimes” acceptable. Only 28% said they were never justified.

According to the annual Pew Global Attitudes Survey, released in July 2006, “roughly one-in-seven Muslims in France, Spain and Great Britain feel that suicide bombings against civilian targets can at least sometimes be justified to defend Islam.” The report also found that less than half of Jordan’s Muslims believe terror attacks are never justified. In Egypt, only 45% of Muslims say terror is never justified.

Still think only a “tiny minority” are in favor of violence? (Read it all).

Dispatches: Undercover Mosque

The UK Channel 4 documentary Dispatches: Undercover Mosque anticipated in the following article has been made available in three parts on YouTube (h/t LGF).

Revealed: preachers' messages of hate
An undercover investigation has revealed disturbing evidence of Islamic extremism at a number of Britain's leading mosques and Muslim institutions, including an organisation praised by the Prime Minister.

Secret video footage reveals Muslim preachers exhorting followers to prepare for jihad, to hit girls for not wearing the hijab, and to create a 'state within a state'. Many of the preachers are linked to the Wahhabi strain of Islam practised in Saudi Arabia, which funds a number of Britain's leading Islamic institutions.

A forthcoming Channel 4 Dispatches programme paints an alarming picture of how preachers in some of Britain's most moderate mosques are urging followers to reject British laws in favour of those of Islam. Read it all.

Al-Qaeda’s best assets prime UK timebomb

The Telegraph: British Muslims volunteering to fight against coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan are being sent back to Britain to become al-Qaeda “sleeper” agents, The Sunday Telegraph has learned.

MI5 agents believe that young Asian men, who have been trained to take part in the so-called “global jihad” in al-Qaeda camps in Pakistan and Afghanistan, are now regarded as too valuable an asset to be used fighting British and American troops.

MI5 and MI6 are working on the assumption that they are being ordered to return to their communities in Britain with instructions to establish secret, autonomous cells and to conduct independent terrorists operations without any direct input from al-Qaeda’s high command.

Security sources claim that al-Qaeda is unlikely to send a British passport holder to his death as a suicide bomber in Iraq when he would be far more valuable as a “sleeper” in Britain.

MI5 fears that it is impossible to estimate how many British Muslims have attended training camps over the past decade or how many are back in the UK planning attacks.

Demographic Trends Condemning Germany To Doom: Muslim State By 2050?

LifeSiteNews, via Jihad Watch:
BERLIN, Germany, November 9, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Germany’s downward spiral in population is no longer reversible, the country’s federal statistics office said Tuesday. The birthrate has dropped so low that immigration numbers cannot compensate.

“The fall in the population can no longer be stopped,” vice-president Walter Rademacher with the Federal Statistics Office said, reported Agence France-Presse.

Germany has the lowest birthrate in Europe, with an average of 1.36 children per woman. Despite government incentives to encourage larger families, the population is dropping rapidly and that trend will continue, with an expected loss of as much as 12 million by 2050. That would mean about a 15 percent drop from the country’s current population of 82.4 million, the German news source Deutsche Welle reported today.

The low birthrate will cause the German population to age dramatically over the next 40 years--last year there were 144,000 more deaths than births, and that number could increase to 600,000 by 2050, the FSO forecast stated.

With a 22 percent reduction in the workforce and increasing costs for senior assistance and medical care, the drop in population is expected to have a radical impact on the nation’s economy, along with the welfare budget....

Germany has one of the largest populations of Muslim immigrants in Western Europe, with a Muslim community of over 3 million. That trend is expected to continue, leading some demographic trend-watchers to warn that the country is well on the way to becoming a Muslim state by 2050, Deutsche Welle reported.

The Brussels Journal reported last month that one third of all European children will be born to Muslim families by 2025. There are an estimated 50 million Muslims living in Europe today--that number is expected to double over the next twenty years.

France: "Youths" Keep Torching Buses; Woman Suffers Severe Burns

Yahoo! News: PARIS (Reuters) - A woman in the southern city of Marseille suffered severe burns when vandals set fire to a bus she was traveling on, a police source said on Saturday.

The attack occurred as France marked the first anniversary of riots that scarred the country's poor suburbs, inhabited largely by immigrants.

Vandals have set at least six buses on fire in suburbs around Paris this week in an upsurge of violence ahead of the anniversary, but there have been no injuries.

The police source said an unknown number of people forced their way on to the bus in Marseille at about 9.00 p.m. (1900 GMT) and set fire to it before a 26-year-old woman could escape.

"The woman's life is in danger," the source said.

Three other people needed treatment for smoke inhalation.

UK: Muslims Vandalise House To Be Rented By Soldiers

“These guys have done nothing but bravely serve their country — yet they can’t even live where they want in their own country.”
After the recent violent clashes between Brits and Muslims, here is another troubling development for Windsor:
The Sun via Jihad Watch: MUSLIM yobs who wrecked a house to stop four brave soldiers moving in after returning from Afghanistan sparked outrage last night.

The house in a village near riot-torn Windsor had BRICKS thrown through windows and was DAUBED with messages of hate.

Four young Household Cavalry officers who had planned to rent it were also the target of phone THREATS.

They were yesterday forced to look elsewhere to live — after top brass warned them against inflaming racial violence near the Queen’s Windsor Castle home....

Louts struck two days after the four arrived in uniform in an Army Land Rover to view it.

The source said: “A gang of local Muslims set about keeping them away. They hurled bricks through the windows and then wrote offensive graffiti across the front of the house.” The vile messages included one in 4ft letters on the drive — warning: “F*** off”.

Sources inside Windsor’s Combermere Barracks — where the officers are based — confirmed Muslims had made calls threatening the men....

Tory MP Philip Davies said of the attack: “This is outrageous.

“If there’s anybody who should f*** off it’s the Muslims who are doing this kind of thing. Police should pull out the stops to track down these vile thugs.”

Sir Andrew Green, director of the think-tank Migrationwatch UK, said: “Incidents like this are absolutely inexcusable and seriously undermine efforts by all sides to achieve integration. Those who choose to live in this country owe a loyalty to Britain.”

Fatwa On Pope

According to this report. (h/t LGF)

Acting on behalf of the International Islamic Front (IIF) for Jihad Against the Crusaders and the Jewish People, which is headed by Osama bin Laden, the Markaz-ud-Dawa (MUD) of Pakistan, which is the political wing of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LET), is reported to have issued a Fatwa calling upon the Muslims to kill Pope Benedict XVI for a recent speech of his delivered on September 12,2006, which has been projected as anti-Islam by Al Qaeda and other jihadi terrorist organisations of the world.

2. The issue of the MUD fatwa came a few days before the latest video message of Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden’s No.2, in which he has made a severe attack on the Pope.

3. A report on the the MUD Fatwa to kill the Pope has been carried by the Pakistani journal “Ausaf” in its issue dated September 18,2006. It has reported as follows:

Pakistan’s Jamaat-ud-Dawa has issued a Fatwa asking the Muslim community to kill Pope Benedict for his blasphemous statement about Prophet Mohammad. The Jamaat-ud-Dawa has declared death to Pope Benedict and said that in today’s world blasphemy of the Holy Koran and the Prophet has become a fashion.

Death Threats Against French Prof For Article Critical Of Islam

In RoP Death Threats Against French Teacher, LGF reports that Robert Redeker, a French philosophy teacher, and his family have been forced into hiding after the newspaper Le Figaro printed an article critical of Islam written by Prof. Redeker. Death threats from RoPers soon followed, prompting the Redeker family to go into hiding.

This is the translation of the article from French, thanks to Fausta's blog!

In the face of Islamist intimidations, what is the free world to do?

The reactions generated by Pope Benedict XVI’s analysis on Islam and violence aim to continue Islam’s attempt to suppress what is most valuable in the West and which Muslim countries don’t have: freedoms of thought and expression. Islam tries to impose its rules on Europe : restricting public swimming pools at certain hours for women only, prohibition to caricature this religion, requiring the compliance of strict dietary rules for Muslim children in school lunchrooms, fighting for wearing the veil at school, and charges of islamophobia against those who are not like-minded.

How to explain the prohibition of the string bikini at the Paris-Beaches [translator’s note: for a few weeks in the summer the banks of the Seine are converted into a public “beach” in Paris, complete with sand] this summer? It was a strange argument: because of the risk of “disorders against law and order”. Did that mean that bands of frustrated young people were likely to become violent from the display of beauty? Or did one fear islamist demonstrations, via virtue brigades, within the Paris-Beaches?

However, allowing the wearing of the veil on the streets is, because of the support to the oppression of women that the veil signifies, more likely “to disturb the law and order” than the string bikini. One is not out of line in thinking that this gesture represents an Islamization of the French spirit, a submission more or less conscious to the tenets of Islam. Or, at the very least, that it results from an insidious Moslem pressure on the spirit. Islamization of the spirit: even those which protested against the inauguration of a Jean-Paul-II Square in Paris do not oppose to building mosques. Islam tries to force Europe to yield to its vision of man. Read it all.

Don't forget to read Death Threats in Brussels, France (Robert Redeker) from The Brussels Journal.

"The only dialogue we will accept is when all other religions agree to convert to Islam"

That's all you need to know.
WorldNetDaily.com via Jihad Watch: JERUSALEM – Pope Benedict XVI's meeting this week with a delegation of Muslim leaders and his calls for interfaith dialogue following earlier remarks about Islam are really "Crusader conspiracies" to subjugate the Islamic faith and force "Christian-Zionist" worldviews upon Muslims, a prominent Gaza Strip preacher told WorldNetDaily in an interview.

Sheik Abu Saqer, leader of Gaza's Jihadia Salafiya Islamic outreach movement, which seeks to make secular Muslims more religious, called the pope a "puppet" for "that Crusader George Bush."

The Gaza imam said the only Christian-Muslim dialogue that is acceptable is one in which "all religions agree to convert to Islam."

"Call us murderers and we'll kill you"

A very good article on Pope Rage and the recurring phenomenon of Islamic Rage (motoons anyone?):

Jihadists don't care about logic
George Jonas, National Post: To counter any suggestion that Islam is a violent religion, Muslims attacked churches in the West Bank, Gaza and Basra this week.
...What did the Pope do? As most readers know, he quoted a remark made by the Byzantine emperor Manuel II Palaeologus: "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."
..."The infidelity and tyranny of the Pope will only be stopped by a major attack," announced al-Qaeda from its cave on the Afghan-Pakistani border. Al-Qaeda's political arm in New York, a.k.a. the United Nations, took no position, only using the opportunity to condemn Israel for one thing or another.

Why do some Muslims have such an uncanny talent for proving the case of their critics? When accused of violence, they threaten violence. Better still, they engage in it. "Call us unruly and we riot," they say, in essence. "Call us murderers, and we kill you." Don't they see that this makes them a joke?

Well, no, they don't -- and they're right. Saying such things may make someone a joke in a debating society, but Islamofascists fight in a different arena. They don't care about winning the debate; what they want to win is their Kampf, better known these days as Jihad.

Lo and behold, they're winning it. By now the whole world tiptoes around the sensibilities of medieval fanatics. We take pains not to offend ululating fossils who cheer suicide bombers. Or raise them. We prop up rickety regimes whose sole contribution to modern times is to nurture ancient grievances and revive barbaric customs. We worry about the feelings -- feelings! -- of people who stone their loved ones for sexual missteps. We pussyfoot to protect the delicate psyche of oily ogres who amputate the hands of petty thieves, issue fatwas on novelists and cover up their hapless wives and sisters to the eyeballs.

We do this, obviously, not because we're impressed by the logic of the Islamofascist line -- "call us murderers and we'll kill you" -- but because we're intimidated by it. The Jihadists don't care about the quality of their argument. One doesn't have to, if one's aim isn't to persuade, but to coerce. The mullahs of militant Islam aren't worried about proving their critics' case. So some pundits think we're proving Benedict XVI or Manuel II right, imams Choudary and Malin might say. Big deal. Logic may be essential for pundits. It isn't essential for our followers who are willing to blow themselves up to get their way.

More here.

Creed of the sword

An interesting article that makes some spot-on observations.
Islam has to accept that its militants find support for violence in their faith's teachings and should pursue reform, writes Mark Durie
The Australian via Jihad Watch: THE world has witnessed a flood of reaction this week to Benedict XVI's Regensburg lecture, a reaction that has gone well beyond words, with attacks on churches in Gaza, the West Bank and Basra, and apparently the killing of an elderly Italian nun in Mogadishu, together with her guard. Some have called for the Pope to be executed....

On the other hand, no less a figure than the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdel Aziz al-Sheikh, issued a statement on the official Saudi news service, defending Muslims' divine right to resort to violence: "The spread of Islam has gone through several phases, secret and then public, in Mecca and Medina. God then authorised the faithful to defend themselves and to fight against those fighting them, which amounts to a right legitimised by God. This ... is quite reasonable, and God will not hate it."

Saudi Arabia's most senior cleric also explained that war was never Islam's ancient founder, the prophet Mohammed's, first choice: "He gave three options: either accept Islam, or surrender and pay tax, and they will be allowed to remain in their land, observing their religion under the protection of Muslims." Thus, according to the Grand Mufti, the third option of violence against non-Muslims was only a last resort, if they refused to convert or surrender peacefully to the armies of Islam. Continues here.

What Islam Really Wants

From Gates of Vienna, it speaks for itself:

Islam seeks to conquer the world

The rules of war are flexible; the objective of war remains.

The warlike religion of Mohammed

by Egon Flaig

“We hope that the flag of Islam may fly again over this land, which had the good fortune, for some time, to be under the rule of Islam and the roof of the Muezzins, god bless his name. Then the light of Islam died and they returned to unbelief. Andalusia, Sicily, the Balkans, the south of Italy and the Greek islands are all Islamic colonies, that must return to the arms of Islam. The Mediterranean and the Red Sea must return to being a part of the Islamic nation.”

Hassan al-BannaThese words are not from Al Qaeda; they are part of a program that the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood Hassan al-Banna formulated in a speech. The Brotherhood has millions of members and has spread far beyond Egypt. Their intellectuals are active in Europe and the United States; they are considered “moderate” and are accorded recognition as such in the media. The planned recapture of “lost” areas belongs to the political program of states who consider territorial power struggles essential, i.e. in a political arena. How can this be in the program of a religion?

Is Islam a religion like others?

Since the beginning of classical times, between the ninth and eleventh century, Islamic clerics have divided the world into two parts, “The House of Islam” and “The House of War”. This partition is not dictated by where Muslims live or are in abundance, but only by where Islam rules — as dictated by Shari’ah — and where it does not. This is understood religiously but meant politically. Between these two parts of the world there will, naturally, be war until “The House of War” no longer exists, and Islam rules the world. (Sura 8, 39 and 9, 41)

This is why classical Islamic teachings dictate the duty to fight the infidels until they convert or submit.

This war is called Jihad.

As the teachings of Jesus asked for the conversion of all peoples, but not of their political systems, so the target of Islam is the political systems but not the religious ones, in case they are “of the book”.

The Pope, Islam and Muslim Response

Doesn't it strike folks strange that Muslims are upset at the Pope's comments about Islam being a violent religion, then they turn around and threaten to hang him and commit jihad across the globe? I guess they don't see the irony in their actions and words.

Morocco recalls their ambassador to the Vatican. Pakistan's parliment passes a unanimous resolution condemning the pope's words. Two churches in the West Bank were hit by firebombs. Egypt's foreign ministry summoned the Vatican's envoy to Cairo today to express Egypt's "extreme regret" and request the pope to "move quickly to contain the situation".

The oldest church in Gaza City was attacked by gunfire by a group calling itself the Islamic Organization of the Swords of Righteousness. A grenade also went off outside the church. In the West Bank town of Nablus, gunmen threw Molotov cocktails at four churches of different denominations. Also gunmen opened fire inside an empty Catholic church after the building's entrance door was burnt down. source

The Vatican is trying some damage control. 'The new Vatican secretary of state, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, said Benedict's position on Islam is in line with Vatican teaching that the church "regards with esteem also the Muslims. They adore the one God."' But Muslims are not accepting this, they want to hear directly from the Pope. "We do not accept the apology through Vatican channels ... and ask him (Benedict) to offer a personal apology — not through his officials," Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, Lebanon's most senior Shiite cleric, told worshippers Friday in Beirut. source

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood is demanding a personal apology from the Pope, or ... jihad??? The 57 nation Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the world's largest Muslim body, said quotations used by the Pope represented a "character assassination of the Prophet Mohammad" and a "smear campaign". The OIC hopes that this campaign is not the prelude of a new Vatican policy towards Islam. source

There are a few voices of reason: 'Din Syamsuddin, chairman of Muhammadiyah, the second largest Islamic organisation in Indonesia, said the remarks could hurt "harmonious" relations between Muslims and Catholics and urged Muslims against reacting excessively. "Whether the Pope apologises or not, the Islamic community should show that Islam is a religion of compassion," he told Reuters.' source

Fauzan Al-Anshori, spokesman for the radical Indonesian Mujahideen Council, said the Pope misunderstood Islam and jihad and challenged him to a dialogue. "Muslims can't eliminate jihad from the Islamic discourse, the same way Christians can't do away with the doctrine of Trinity," he said. source

The strongest denunciations came from Turkey — a moderate democracy seeking European Union membership where Benedict is scheduled to visit in November as his first trip as pope to a Muslim country. source

Germany, where the Pope delivered his controversial speech, is 'reconsidering religion'. Germans themselves are modeling a growing acceptance of religion's role in shaping society, even though 'This is the continent where some leading thinkers are talking about a "post-Christian Europe." And this is the country of philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, who infamously quipped, "God is dead."' source

Anger flared across the Islamic world yesterday over comments by Pope Benedict XVI, with Muslims from London to Jakarta assailing the pontiff for implicitly linking Islam with religious violence in a speech earlier this week. ...

Pakistan's parliament passed a unanimous resolution condemning the pope's words. A prominent Turkish politician accused the German-born spiritual leader of Roman Catholicism of resurrecting the spirit of the Crusades, the medieval wars launched by European kingdoms -- usually with papal blessings -- against Islamic strongholds in lands sacred to Christians, Muslims, and Jews. ...

he pope set off the controversy Tuesday during an academic lecture on reason and religion at the University of Regensburg. He quoted a 14th-century Byzantine Christian emperor, Manuel II Paleologos, as having said: ``Show me what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."

Benedict seemed to be criticizing the concept of ``jihad," or holy war -- an idea that Islamic radicals exploit to justify terrorist attacks, but also a notion that peaceful Muslims use to describe the mystical struggle between good and evil. Historically, jihad was often invoked by Islamic rulers as giving spiritual license to wage wars of conquest and conversion against nonbelievers. source

Moderate Muslims Promise Terrorism

Yesterday we told you about the so called moderate Muslims, Muslim Council
of Britain, who promised 2 million Muslim terrorists if they don't get what they want. And what is it they want? An end
to ‘demonising’ of Muslims, because the world knows Muslims are peaceful and wouldn't harm a hair on your head, right?

With exemplary tact and exquisite timing, the ‘leader’ of Britain’s Muslims chose the eve of the fifth anniversary of 9/11 to warn that we are facing the threat of two million home-grown Islamic terrorists.

The preposterous, self-aggrandising ‘secretary-general’ of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), Muhammad Abdul Bari, predicted an angry backlash against what he perceives as widespread ‘Islamophobia’ in this country. . . .

Bari and his sidekicks are regularly wheeled out as the authentic voice of ‘moderate’ Islam.

Their victimhood shtick is treated as gospel by broadcasters and they are taken seriously by government ministers and senior police officers. . . . Criticise them and you are damned as an ‘Islamophobe’

Perhaps while the Muslim Council is accusing others of bigotry it would like to share with us its enlightened views on homosexuality and arranged marriages.

‘Islamophobia’ is just another of those catch-all, smear-the-messenger fantasies dreamed up to close down debate and stifle free speech.

When you examine closely Bari’s latest outburst, it is nothing short of monstrous. What he is saying is that every Muslim in this country is a potential terrorist.

If anything is guaranteed to increase suspicion of Muslims it is incendiary statements like that. . . .

The anniversary of the attacks on America should be an occasion for sober reflection and remembrance. But the MCB has never met an atrocity it didn’t try to exploit. Their tactic is always the same.

After their perfunctory condemnation of terrorism, there’s always the caveat about British foreign policy in the Middle East and the assertion that the real victims are not those who have actually been blown to smithereens but Muslims themselves. . . .

The fact is that this jihad started long before 9/11, years before Iraq and Afghanistan. The first attack on the World Trade Centre was in 1993. Daily Mail

Ira Rifkin in Jewish World Review , talks about his first assignment in 1985, 'feature on what was then a new phenomenon in Southern California, a fully licensed Muslim parochial school', which 'operated under the auspices of the Islamic Center of Southern California, then as now one of this nation's preeminent Muslim institutions. The school's mission was "to teach the values of Islam to the new generation".

Mr. Rifkin used to believe in moderate muslims and dialogue, but not any more.

Since then I've spent considerable professional time exploring the American Muslim community. I've also sought out participation in Jewish-Muslim interfaith activities; I've broken bread with Muslims at their homes and at mine, and at the White House at official presidential Ramadan break-the-fast events.

I fully embraced, even relished, these opportunities. Information and dialogue, I believed, could lower if not eliminate the barriers of suspicion that kept Muslims and Jews from understanding each others' hopes and fears. We live in the United States, not the Middle East, I told myself. Here, reason might prevail.

Sadly, I no longer have much faith in that coming to pass. Five years after the Twin Towers crashed and the Pentagon burned I find myself profoundly soured on the idea that the two communities can ever work together to defuse the disharmony between them. Certainly not for the foreseeable future. Perhaps never.

. . . Muslims . . . insist that all Palestinians living outside the Jewish state's 1948 borders have a right to return to resettle in Israel. That's a recipe for Israel's demographic eradication and they know it.

. . . a prime tenet of Islam is the uumah, the notion that there is an essential unity among all believers, regardless of where they live, and that it transcends nationality, race and ethnicity. Religious solidarity comes first. Islam is the primary social identity. This helps explain why American Caucasian converts to Islam with no direct link to Middle East tensions tend to adopt anti-Israel and even anti-Jewish attitudes. . . .

If anything, today I'd weigh in against helping Muslims navigate the American political system. (more)

"Now it's white Britain that has to go on its knees and beg for forgiveness"

Here's an unbelievable piece of anti-white racist rubbish from The Guardian's blog Comment Is Free today:

The Seeds Of Resentment, by Aki Nawaz, a Muslim "Fun-Da-Mental"-ist - as he puts it - "musician" who grew up in Bradford. For more on this despicable guy, see here and here.

"...Next, let's talk about "integration". Well, firstly I would accuse the indigenous population of Britain of being far more guilty than the Muslim communities of resisting it. It is them that have the problem. We just bear the brunt of bad schooling, unemployment, prejudice and demonisation. We are a constant target for the pathetic and repulsive racism that is inherent in this society.

...It is a fact that communities that want to integrate into the British way of life (whatever that means) have done so, and will continue to do so. But it is also interesting that there is a larger part of that population who - other than going to work and contributing their taxes - have no desire to integrate. And why should they? Many of the youth cannot get with the culture of "Thank God it's Friday", and choose other avenues. Most white people have never extended their hands out to the communities and they shouldn't be forced to. We are fine with that.

All the bridges, which have had to be built a million times, have been repeatedly burnt down and now it's white Britain that has to go on its knees and beg for forgiveness. We are tired of the hypocrisy and naïve ignorance we have to endure day in and day out. If women in our communities wish to liberate themselves through the mini-skirt, then they are free to do so. Surprisingly the reverse has been the truth of the matter as they re-identify themselves with more modesty, and even find liberation by wearing the hijab. That was their choice.

We have cultures which are far richer and to some extent hard to live with. Nevertheless, the spiritual value is greater than being British. British society is living in the cold and has a great absence of any philosophical yearning. It is bankrupt morally and politically; dry on ideas of culture and all-embracing enlightenment. This country is in a state of democratic tyranny, and every step it takes, irrespective of the technological gains, it stands naked in its repulsive arrogance and backward mentality. Do we wish to integrate into those mindsets? Your "way of life" is just not attractive to us so we "reject it".

We reject your foreign policy as an outdated colonial racist policy. If you wish to stop the madness in the world deal with the real issues rather than creating a diversion by trying to integrate us into your demonic complex of imperialism. The world has moved on and if you sow the seeds of resentment in other places the roots will grow here and ensnare you."
Britain you are indeed in big trouble.
